Description
Langley Track and Field has a rich history of pole vault success. We were one of the first schools to have a pole vault “pit” that was not an actual pit of sand or sawdust. The portable “airbag” system allowed athletes to land on their backs rather than on their feet and achieve greater heights. The system was even set up in the gym at half-time of a Langley basketball game in 1969 with school record holder Howard Bankston Post and other vaulters entertaining the crowd and generating exposure for the track team.

Pits are now made of foam and it’s time to replace our current pit which is over 20 years old. In the last 15 years alone, the current pit has helped at least 16 Langley vaulters qualify for the Indoor and Outdoor State Championships. In those appearances, Langley vaulters earned two state titles, seven second-place finishes, one third place and several other top-ten finishes. Our pole vault athletes have often led the team in scoring at both the Liberty District and North Region Championships. In 2022, the Langley girl’s won their first District team title in over ten years by 12 points with the vaulters taking first through third and earning 24 points to lead the team to the title. To continue our success, we need a new pit, which costs $20,000. As mentioned, the pits often last 15 years or more. With both an indoor and outdoor track season every year, the per-year value is actually pretty high. Langley Boosters, the group that supports all athletics, has graciously offered to pay for half of the cost. We’re asking alumni and friends of the team to donate to a fundraiser to fund the other half of the new pits. Spread the word to your family and friends too! Any amount will help and will go
towards continuing the Langley legacy in pole vault and track and field.
Thank you for your support,
